Dollar General chose Sparky Edwards as its Every Day Hero for June 2013. Sparky exemplifies the Every Day Hero. He is a decorated military veteran who served in South Korea and Iraq. Once an at-risk teenager, Sparky turned his life around with the help of a National Guard youth academy. The fresh start helped him earn his GED and enter the military. Today, he is a successful business owner, pursuing his PhD and paying it forward by volunteering to mentor at-risk teenagers.
Already being a huge fan of Dollar General and their amazing prices, I have to say its things like this that impact my shopping somewhere more than almost anything else. When companies give back to their communities it shows me something. Last month, during military appreciation month a local gas station was donating a portion of sales from each gallon to The Fisher House, which is a place Wounded Warriors and their families can get free and low-cost lodging while seeking treatment for their injuries. I wasn't even near this gas station but I purposely went there because of this. Thanks to Procter & Gamble and Dollar General for giving back to their community and honoring those that do so much for it as well.
